Heritage Park Expansion Brings New Trails and Pavilion to Downtown Fulshear
Downtown Fulshear is getting a major upgrade that local families and park enthusiasts have been eagerly anticipating. The Heritage Park expansion project, now in its final phase, is transforming the beloved green space along FM 359 into a vibrant community destination with new amenities that will draw visitors from across Fort Bend County.
The $4.2 million expansion includes two miles of beautifully paved walking trails that wind through native Texas landscaping, offering residents from nearby Cross Creek Ranch, Jordan Ranch, and Fulshear Run easy access to nature without venturing far from home. The trails have been thoughtfully designed to accommodate walkers of all ages and ability levels, making Heritage Park a truly inclusive community space.
"This expansion represents our commitment to quality of life in Fulshear," said Dr. Patricia Gonzales, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Fulshear. "We wanted to create something that brings people together while celebrating the natural beauty of our area. The proximity to the Brazos River makes this park special, and we've designed the trails to highlight those scenic views."
One of the centerpieces of the expansion is a new covered pavilion, perfect for family gatherings, community events, and celebrations. The structure features ample picnic tables, grills, and electrical hookups—making it ideal for everything from birthday parties to neighborhood block parties. Local organizations are already booking the space months in advance.
Perhaps most exciting for the broader Fulshear community is the dedicated farmers market space. Every Saturday morning starting in March, the pavilion will host the Fulshear Farmers Market, featuring vendors from across Fort Bend County selling fresh produce, artisan goods, and local products. This weekly gathering is expected to become a signature community event, drawing families who want to support local agriculture and connect with neighbors.
The project was funded through a combination of city bonds and state park grants, with construction managed by Fort Bend County-based contractors who employed local workers. City officials say the expansion was one of the most anticipated infrastructure projects in recent Fulshear history, and feedback from residents during the planning process was overwhelmingly positive.
Heritage Park officially opens to the public on March 1, with a grand opening celebration planned for the following weekend. The expansion solidifies Fulshear's reputation as a community that values outdoor recreation and brings neighbors together.
