Economy at a Glance: February 2026, Presented by Cross Creek Ranch

As Fulshear enters its ninth year of sustained economic growth, February's data underscores the continued momentum that has transformed the city into one of Fort Bend County's most dynamic communities. Population expansion, new commercial development, and robust residential activity all point to a region riding a wave of prosperity that shows no signs of slowing.

Fulshear's population now stands at approximately 13,200 residents, representing a 15 percent increase over the past twelve months. This growth trajectory places Fulshear among the fastest-growing small cities in the greater Houston metro area, with projections suggesting the community could reach 18,000 residents within five years. Much of this growth has been concentrated in established master-planned communities like Cross Creek Ranch, Jordan Ranch, and Fulshear Run, where new neighborhoods continue to open to strong buyer demand.

Commercial activity along the FM 1093 corridor remains robust, with new commercial permits issued at a pace that exceeds the previous year's comparable period. In January and early February, developers submitted permits for additional retail, restaurant, and office space—a sign of continued investor confidence in Fulshear's market. The corridor has evolved from a rural highway into a thriving mixed-use district that serves both local residents and visitors from surrounding communities.

The residential real estate market reflects the broader economic strength. The median home price in Fulshear has climbed to $385,000, up 7.2 percent year-over-year. This appreciation is consistent with Fort Bend County's overall performance but trails the broader Houston metro, suggesting Fulshear still offers value compared to closer-in suburbs. Days on market have shortened to 28 days on average, down from 32 days in February 2025, indicating strong buyer demand.

Employment conditions in Fort Bend County remain healthy, with the county's unemployment rate holding steady at 3.8 percent—a full percentage point below the state average and roughly in line with national trends. Job creation has been led by healthcare, advanced manufacturing, technology services, and retail sectors. The continued expansion of the Port of Houston and logistics operations in Fort Bend County have supported steady labor market conditions.

New business openings in Fulshear during January and February included three restaurants, two professional service firms, a specialty retail shop, and various service providers. The variety and pace of new business formation suggest that entrepreneurs view Fulshear as a stable, growing market with adequate foot traffic and population density to support new ventures.

Looking ahead, economic forecasters anticipate continued growth in the Houston metro region, with Fulshear poised to benefit from its location, quality of life amenities, and well-developed infrastructure. The city's strategic position west of Houston, combined with its reputation for strong schools and family-friendly neighborhoods, positions Fulshear to capture a significant share of the metro's continued population expansion.

For local business owners and residents, the economic indicators paint a picture of a community in ascendancy—one where opportunity exists for both established businesses and new entrepreneurs, and where property values appreciate steadily while maintaining relative affordability compared to surrounding areas.
